This show does such a wonderful job capturing the comedy and heart of the original animated film. The performances are energetic and almost cartoonish in physical comedy, while staying grounded and filled with nuanced emotion when needed. Lars Toler embodies Lewis’s youthful optimism perfectly, while also being able to deliver the depth of his yearning for family in a way that will make you cry. Danny Gendron is perfectly clownishly cartoony as the bowler hat guy, consistently making the me laugh every time he took the stage. All around this production is filled with so much heart. If you loved the original animated film, you’ll love this show.
What I didn't like
Some transitions were a bit long and could be cleaned up. There were a couple moments where transition time took away from the urgency of the story.
My overall impression
Did I laugh? Audibly, from my belly multiple times. Did I cry? No, I wept.
