The program/dossier was wildly imaginative and intriguing. I appreciated the choice of using practical lighting as it would’ve been in the actual scenario as an inventive artistic choice. Amidst all the drama, the comedy was deftly executed. As the conclusion drew near, it did up the stakes and made for, despite knowing the ending, a suspenseful and anxious experience.
What I didn't like
There was some trouble hearing a couple of the actors – sometimes volume, sometimes articulation. Maybe succumbed to the moody nature of the play and forgot that it’s still a play, and we need to hear the words. The use of a projection screen to give the audience a sense of where we were in time was great; perhaps to add some context of what was going on, or the countdown to the final event, would’ve been helpful to orient us in this time and place. Unless you had time to read the entire and quite dense program, I was not completely clear where we were in the trajectory of the event.
My overall impression
The moody, mysterious nature of the topic and production made for a quietly anxiety producing ambience, because we all know the outcome of this story. But to watch these characters, each with their own level of awareness, go through the emotions and misgivings and convictions of this covert event was the journey of this story.
