What I liked

She played multiple characters and managed to make each one distinct. It wasn’t just a costume change – her voice, body movements, facial expressions were each character’s own. Seeing Cylie the person after the show made me appreciate the character of Jackie even more. They are very different which tells you what a talented actor Cylie is.

What I didn't like

Some transitions weren’t always clear. I think if I had seen the show more than once it might have made more sense. Jackie being the preacher wasn’t clear to me. So I didn’t fully understand how that “character” (though not a different character) fit in. Why was she preaching? If that was her act, what made it entertaining to the imaginary audience? Why did Jackie do that act?

My overall impression

Inventive, engaging, thought provoking without being over the top. Cylie is a talented and expressive performer, the show she wrote is creative and her performance was magnetic. It’s melancholy, hopeful and brave.

The character of Jackie stirred a lot of emotions in me. I genuinely cared about her, worried about her, was pulled in by her. This show was not formulaic at all. I truly didn’t know where it was going to go. And after it was over I wanted to know more about Jackie. I’d see a follow up show to see where she goes in life.
