What I liked

The production was top-notch. Excellent costume, set design, sound design/live music, puppetry, and lighting, including some incredible (what looked like) projector work! The acting was engaging and engrossing, the clowning was so good with such specific and larger than life voice and movement work. I thought there wasn’t going to be much of a script, but even the script had some great dialogue and kept a fun tone between storybook-like and silly.

What I didn't like

Some of the stories were left a little open-ended when I thought they were going to get a payoff/button—namely the story about having the power to turn someone to ash. But I wasn’t sure if that was an issue with the folktale it was derived from/inspired by or not.

My overall impression

Imagine watching an anthology of Pixar films made for adults—and you have Trickster. It a funny, whimsical, raunchy, clever, and charming series of folktales about the trickster character. Every performer brought something special with their careful attention to movement and characterization. The performances and production value were stunning.
