My overall impression

Took in the June 22 show and was able to grab the front row. What a treat to see the original Spolin players on stage and to watch them perform the games so expertly!

From the ensemble games to the two and three person games, the audience was treated to top notch entertainment that was equal parts: funny, engrossing and pretty darn amazing.

I liked the games that called on the players to make the audience “see” what was happening on stage. “Dubbing”, “Sound Scape” and “Transformation” were great vehicles for this which, from what I understand, is one of the major tenets of Viola Spolin’s work. In order to this, the player has to “see” the space and the objects they are working with and within in order for the audience to see them. Well, as far as I’m concerned, the players definitely had it all in their sight! It was quite remarkable actually.

Do yourself a favor and go see the fruit of the “first seeds of improvisation” that is Spolin’s life long work. Her teachings are the roots of many of the mainstream improv troupes of today including the world famous, Second City and are on display at this years Hollywood Fringe festival! Enjoy!
