My overall impression

The conceit of the play is so fiendishly clever that there isn’t anywhere the narrative can take you that isn’t justified. The great news is that the story is reigned in and tempered by the writers in such a way that you’re never completely lost, yet the incredibly talented cast has all the room in the world to soar. I did not know the plays of record, but the exposition is carefully meted out so that it doesn’t affect one’s ability in the least to enjoy the intricacies of the character’s predicaments. Even though the space is spare, there is full life on the stage and the actors bring an amazing energy and craft to the material. Just a wonderful piece of imaginative theater!
