I wish I could watch the play at least 10 more times. Little questions keep occurring to me and I want to think about why things were done the way they were. That point to the depth of the script.
What I didn't like
There were a couple times the stage didn’t get set, but the actors problem solved while staying in character. Maybe a little lighting issue as well, but that is the fun of live theater.
My overall impression
The one word that kept coming to me after seeing In The Beginning was…beautiful. I loved everything about it. If you’ve ever read the Bible through, this is the first story you will read. Or, if you, like me, have tried to read the Bible through but failed, it’s the story you’ve read multiple times. The script that Ms. Robinson presented added the flesh, blood, and heart this short, complex, and crtical story in the Bible. As women, its easy to glance at God and think we are less valuable than men to Him, but what Ms Robinson has shown us is that women are mighty, fearless, and vital to God’s plan. The actors were amazing, but especially the actor playing Eve. I couldn’t stop looking at their face, every thought and feeling right there to see. The costuming was very clever, with items like Eve’s red dress and Adam’s leopard print thong telling their own story. I absolutely loved this play. It is cheeky and fun, but also heartbreakingly real. And beautiful.
