Laurel Preston carries the show as Eve. Her journey from naivety to hard-won wisdom is engaging throughout. The script is at its most poignant when Eve grapples with her various roles in the world (daughter, wife, mother), and how those roles are frequently at odds with her own desires.
What I didn't like
This is only an issue in the context of Fringe: between starting late and the actual length of the production, the show ran 1 hour, 45 minutes, rather than the advertised 1 hour, 30 minutes.
My overall impression
In The Beginning takes the biblical creation myth and recenters the story around Eve. Her hopes, dreams, and struggles are at the heart of this piece, portrayed beautifully by Laurel Preston.
