I really liked the scene where God chose to save Eve’s life. It shows how much God cares about her and wants her to live. I also really liked the scene where Adam told Eve that he loves her after asked for him to kill her. That scene made me respect Adam more for stepping up as the husband and loving Eve for all that she is. The scene was also quite romantic.
What I didn't like
The plot leaps through time a lot throughout the second and third act. For example, every scene felt like there was a jump in time. It’s an interesting way to tell a story. But personally, I would prefer less time leaps throughout the play and have an act where it’s only in a certain timeline like within a day or two. That way I can be feel more present in that moment from Adam and Eve’s lives.
My overall impression
I thought the concept of In the Beginning was interesting with how the playwright took the Adam and Eve story and challenged it with her characterization of Eve. I am not super familiar with Adam and Eve but I like how the play did more than just challenge the story. lt talks about the importance of family, being a mother, the complications in life, and toxic masculinity and how it could be dangerous to love ones. Overall, I was impressed with how this play evolved and challenged the mythical story of Adam and Eve.
