What I liked
truly effective light/sound design, TIGHT writing, generationally compelling performer
What I didn't like
This is more of a “personal preference” than a “thing that must be improved,” but I think Brendan is a master at crowdwork and I think there’s space in the show for more of it!
My overall impression
I have been watching Brendan Scannell do comedy for my entire adult life. “The Abyss” is his high water mark. Inventive in its presentation, slippery in its tone, pure in its artistry, “The Abyss” is the kind of show that can only exist when a writer/performer is completely in control of his voice. There are moments in this show that I am still thinking about a week later, and it’s likely I will be thinking about them for my entire life. See this show!
