A truly immersive experience, I loved that the audience members were fellow passengers on the submersible.
What I didn't like
Improvements were not on my mind during or after, and I’m hard-pressed to think of any now.
My overall impression
Brendan takes us to the depths of his personal and family trauma (yes, the abyss) with a thoughtful, laugh-out-loud blend of humor and heart. The show takes place in a sci-fi ready submersible but there’s not an artificial note in this show, which excavates Brendan’s own life choices and lays bare difficult family dynamics. In addition to writing and acting, The Abyss is also a showcase for Brendan’s stand-up and physical comedy. Even during the heaviest material, it’s a joy to watch someone use so many skills to deliver what is, at its core, an intelligent and very funny ode to empathy.
