JASON <3 MEDEA

This is an incredibly imaginative reworking of the Medea myth that was really enjoyable to watch. Medea is brought into the 21st century and is portrayed by a young but insanely talented woman who captures perfectly Medea's pain and desire to be loved. The production enables three young actors to communicate the heavy and intimidating task of portraying the Medea tale and the acting company should be very proud of the characters they have created. Cody Goss as Jason has retained the endearing qualities of Jason that help us understand just what Medea loves about him. Alvaro Renteria as Ancaeus is a perfect one man greek chorus - watching him listen and react to the chaotic storm that is Medea and Jason is a pure joy to watch. I highly recomm... full review

This show has some interesting ideas and creative thoughts, but seems unrealized. Jason and Medea are presented fairly one-sided, with Jason as a arrogant jerk and Medea as a crazy woman. The most dynamic character was the third actor playing one of the Argonauts. I would have liked to have seen more complex humanity in Jason and Medea, and more depth in their relationship. The script seemed to hit the same points over and over again. It felt like it was trying to be Stoppard's Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, but without the same specificity. Another big issue was the space. The sound bounces a lot in the theatre this show was in, and they didn't adapt to the space. Jason <3 Medea is a good example of a play in transition to becoming a better, full show. With that said, this is not a show for everyone, leaving many to figure out what they just witnessed. Though a story still in its early stages of infancy with a lot of needed improvements, Jason <3 Medea is thought provoking and visually entertaining. The show attempts to revitalize the myth of Medea by focusing on a much younger version of the character than the weathered mother Euripides and many other playwrights have introduced us to. The largest criticism I have for this show has nothing to do with the performances, but the script itself. I went to this expecting a new look at an old myth, combining pop culture and science with the myth to create a new version of the story, but that's not what I got. It was interesting enough, pretty design, but the couple references to modern science did not live up to the description that made me want to come see the show.... full review

Jason <3 Medea is a wonderfully acted play. The role of Medea is powerfully played, dramatic and frightening, while Jason is natural and heroic. Ancaeus is funny and heartwarming with an underlining innocence. I enjoyed the play immensely. The costumes were unique, giving great accent to each character's identity. I left with a great sense of feeling for each character. It is up to the audiences interpretation of what's going on, but it is definitely a play I want to see again.... full review
