About the Project
I am currently writing my solo show, focusing on several historical women, the first being Lorraine Hansberry who wrote A Raisin In The Sun in 1959, at the age of 29 she won the coveted New York Critics Award for Best Play, which made her win historical as she was the youngest American, first African American and fifth woman to win the award. Lorraine was also an activist for civil rights and thereby was very active through writing about it in newspapers, and giving public speeches encouraging others to be stand up for equal rights for all…race and gender were issues she addressed often.
