FREEDOM IN LIMBO forces us to open our eyes to the life-threatening realities that all women, artists, truth-tellers, immigrants face when living under oppressive regimes whose goal is power and submission. She leaves Iran only to find the same in America – 2026. Each moment of this production forces us to understand how much courage it takes to even put it all down on paper, no less perform it.
The show is painfully captivating.
What I didn't like
From a director’s point of view, some of the physical scene transitions could be blocked differently, but this is minor compared to the overall impact of the show.
My overall impression
When I received the email from the HFF asking if “I enjoyed the production of…..?”, I cannot say that I enjoyed FREEDOM IN LIMBO. The intensity of this production are not to be enjoyed – rather it takes us on a journey through fear, rejection, oppression, abuse, invalidation but most of all COURAGE. Are these things to be enjoyed? No. However, are these things we must embrace, support, honor, and understand? Absolutely. FREEMDOM IN LIMBO begins before it begins – showing us the realities being a woman, creative, actor, immigrant in a country whose politics are designed to obliterate all three. Iran – 2026? Welcome to America – 2026 – where safety can no longer be found.
