About the Project
“Kumon the Musical” is a sharp, heartfelt musical comedy that follows a new Asian kid who joins Kumon, hoping to boost her math grade from a C to a B+. But she quickly discovers that the program—and its perfection-obsessed culture—is less about learning and more about relentless pressure to achieve straight A’s. As she bonds with a crew of overworked kids, they question the value of nonstop drills and Tiger Parent expectations. Together they rise up and hilariously overthrow the tyrannical Kumon director, but they’re faced with a sobering truth: escaping one program doesn’t mean escaping the system.
