What I liked
One of the things that elevates this show above many of the solo shows I have seen is a stellar lighting design by Gregory Crafts. The lighting builds over the top worlds, sets the tone, and even helps differentiate between characters.
In terms of the writing my favorite story was the DJ story. I thought it was so hilarious, earnest, and touching.
What I didn't like
I wonder if there is any merit to flipping the order of the last story and the resolution of the chocolate story. I see why you ended the way you did with music and celebration, but that might make nice bookends for future renditions of this show. So excited to see where you go next!
My overall impression
Suzannah Butcher is a theatrical treasure with a heart of gold. The stories that she has woven together are guaranteed to warm your heart and put a smile on your face. Additionally, this show featured some of the cleanest character and accent work I have ever seen. While the turbulence of motherhood is a major theme of the show, I’d say the even more prominent message is about self discovery in the face of adversity, which makes this show profoundly relatable whether you have children or not. I didn’t want the journey to end!
