Proverbs /ˈpräˌvərb/ 22:1 "It's better to have a good name rather than gold or silver." But what happens when you have a good name but the evil powers that be use their power to alternate history. My favorite quote is "It isn't the things you know to be true that hurt you, it's the things you know to be true, that aren't true." Simply put, what I knew to be true about the name Uncle Tom aka Josiah Henson, may just very well have been based around evil powers damaging a super humans's name.
This play directed, written, produced and starred in by Jeremiah Core, left me speechless. The opening will leave you completely silent. The realism is dangerously relentless, polarizing, you're drastically unprepared for what you're hearing and seeing....

I thoroughly enjoyed Jermiah’s storytelling of Uncle Tom. The opening scene was both shocking and powerful; it offered valuable insight into Uncle Tom’s background as an enslaved man and helped me better understand his complex relationships with both his family and the slave masters.

The storytelling was the heart of this one-man show, and it was masterfully executed. Through Jeremiah’s portrayal, Josiah Henson’s journey came alive—raw, honest, and deeply moving. The way the narrative unfolded, it felt like we were right there with Henson, walking alongside him through each trial and triumph. Jeremiah's ability to carry the weight of such a significant story alone on stage is a testament to his talent and dedication to the role....

The story of Josiah Henson has never been more important to tell, especially in the face our current political climate where histories of Black, Indigenous and other Peoples of Color and marginalized groups are being threatened with erasure. From the VERY moment Jeremiah Core steps on stage, he uproots you from your seat and into the world of Josiah Henson and does not let go until the final beat. The power of Henson's words is evident and tells just a fraction of some incredibly hard truths this country still has not fully reconciled with. ...

In this deeply moving and quintessential performance, Core promptly shatters the surface of written history through his heartfelt embodiment of the unspoken story of Josiah Henson. Gifting the audience a felt sense experience of this remarkable man in his deepest humanity and essence. It is the kind of performance that shakes you to your very core, breaks your heart right open and summons us all back not only into our shared and painful collective history but mainly into our most profound and sacred collective essence and humanity. ...

This was absolutely powerful! I didn't know what I was in for (my friend was going and I gladly tagged along), and the opening scene immediately grabbed my attention-- the actor's commitment to his craft and Mr. Henson's story was eye-opening and world-shifting.
Thank you for sharing this story so boldly, so beautifully, and so fully....
