The term “Uncle Tom” has commonly negative connotations; I loved Jeremiah Core’s writing and performance that brings much-deserved and up-until-now-often-lacking humanity to the man who became known as Uncle Tom. The costumes, set pieces, and tone all work in service together to bring this important story to life.

My overall impression
From the stark, shocking opening scene to the soft strum of the banjo near the end, “Uncle Tom: The True Story of Josiah Henson” is a heartfelt, compelling, and not widely known story that must be seen.
