Personal but not indulgent/acting and storytelling was suberb/a solo shows success depends, in great part, on whether or not we, the audience, care about and trust in the teller. That allows us to go on the journey. Ms. McDuffie is more than easy on the eye, but it is her inner light and beauty that draw us into her world and invite us to walk in the shoes of a woman finding and owning her truest self. That examination gives all of permission and courage to do the same.
What I didn't like
Not a thing. Extend the run if you can. More need to see this work.
My overall impression
What a glorious ride this tour de force was for Janora McDuffie – funny, moving, theatrical but real deal authentic, sexy, sassy, brave – all the things. Grateful to see this beautiful work which invites all of us to examine whether or not anything is more powerful than love. This answer is no, nothing is, and the show is a resounding yes. I urge you to check it out if you can still get a ticket.
