What I liked
I really liked how immersive it was from the second you checked in, with the name tags and strict rules. Typically I am not a fan of shows that involve audience participation, but this show was really elevated by it and it did not feel like I was ever under pressure to speak up. I LOVED the coffee and donuts. The writing was interesting without being preachy. All of the Joes gave wonderful performances.
What I didn't like
Difficult sight-lines meant that I was not able to see all of the actors when they were talking. However, dynamic staging and movement meant that I would never be looking at the back of the actors for too long, so not a huge concern and overall I loved the way the actors were incorporated into the audience.
My overall impression
A well executed and thought provoking play (erm… meeting) about the importance and perseverance of art (uh… something). An unfortunately all too timely and relevant exploration of the role of theatre in a fascist surveillance state. It’s a show that will be sticking with me long after leaving the space.
