What I liked
What a refreshing change to see a show where someone has succeeded in making a cop-out into an art. Unapologetic, ridiculous vulnerability fuse with imaginative and playful resolve in this charming clown piece. The artist exhibited extra bravery in the 5pm slot, inviting a child onstage with him at one point. It could have been a disaster; turned out it was worth the risk!
What I didn't like
Each bit felt a tad too long. While I wouldn’t put it out of the realm of ‘intentional possibility,’ given the artist’s style of clown, nevertheless, the choice dragged me down as an audience member, and (while you’d never know it from my style of writing), I believe it better error on the side of brevity.
Outside of that I am left with questions over a set piece and wish the volume were louder on the voiceovers. Great show!
My overall impression
Reece takes the cliche of being unprepared and transforms it into a highly choreographed one-person farce. Part actors nightmare, part fringe-culture satire, whole hearty romp! Put this one on your list, Fringers.
