You’ve got to like puns. I happen to love puns and every single one worked for me. My favorite joke in the show was a pun that rippled through the audience as more and more people put it together. By the end of the joke, both the pun itself and the escalating audience response were hysterically funny.
My favorite moments were when the show jumped the track and became an extended, surreal riff – whether it was wearing a low bun to the office or his southern (for some reason) mom obsessing about the wallpaper.
What I didn't like
I went to a preview show, meaning there were some tech hiccups. I also think the ending got a little rushed to hit the venue’s schedule. There’s a moment with a lot of dialogue and visuals on screen where some of the text got cut off and I couldn’t see all the jokes because the set was in the way. By the time you see the show, it will probably be easier to read!
My overall impression
Kevin mixes music, standup, clown, and a little bit of tech wizardry to tell the story of the lessons (good and bad) he learned starting over every year in a new school. There’s also some dead on satire of corporate jargon and the masks we wear as adults. (I know the pain of “double click” first hand.) He’s a warm and silly presence on stage and puts on a wonderful show.
