Poverty will always be an issue as long as there are selfish humans. Mikkel did an amazing job, however, expressing the common frustration at how millennials have it worse than their parents – unprecedented in American history.
She also taught us some of the different sorts of people considered peasants in past cultures and what struggles they faced, as well as envisioning who will be considered peasants in the future and what struggles they will face.
Furthermore, she talks extensively about the very important issue that keeps America from enjoying the universal prosperity the rest of the developed world does: Poor white people will vote against their own financial well-being – even wanting to strike down welfare programs they use – because they consider themselves part of the same social status as rich white people instead of poor minorities.
That’s not to make this sound like just some sociology/anthropology lecture. She did various monologues as poor characters in different time periods, as well as many as herself in the present day.
She breaks your heart in the present day monologues when she cries. It helps that she effortlessly keeps her crying looking elegant – no snot LOL.
What I didn't like
The future monologue was okay, and the last past one was great, but the other two past ones were forgettable.
My overall impression
Great job by charming Mikkel Simons talking about how a socioeconomic hierarchy is part of human civilization but she’s embracing her own low rung on the ladder because it’s HERS.
