What I didn't like
Opening night always comes with challenges. A few mic issues and some dark spots in the room are the only things I can really think to mention.
And they need a bigger theater! More people need to see this.
My overall impression
This production of Pippin is a Hollywood fever dream set to 70s Pop-rock. The creative team at Jaxx has always been very ambitious and this is no exception. Seating only about 50 audience members, the whole room is the front row and they use every inch of available space. The cast is huge (I think I counted 20 humans total) and they’re all singing/dancing/acting their sequin covered butts off. Admittedly… I’m still not sure I understand the plot of Pippin at all… but I don’t care. The music was good, the singing was stellar, and the dancing was wild. At one point they lift Berthe into the air and flip her like a pancake WHILE she’s singing. It’s jawdropping
