What I liked
The dancing was top notch. My favorite was probably the chair dance scene – soooo cool. I love that there’s always fun queer elements in JAXX shows, which I feel there can never be too much of! The singalong part was also so much fun. I appreciate their glittery over the top bigness in a small space, and the way they bring lesser done shows to life which LA needs for sure.
What I didn't like
This is more a note about Pippin itself than their production, but I would recommend anyone seeing this show to go read a plot overview before seeing it, otherwise it’s easy to get confused in the beginning of the show. Typical with 70’s era musicals lol
My overall impression
So excited I finally got to see Pippin! Definitely a show I’d wanted to see for a while and I’m so glad JAXX took it on! They’re known for their insane choreo numbers and this was no exception. Killer ensemble work and the leads were excellent. It’s definitely a more modern take on Pippin, but I really enjoyed it! This theater always puts on a great, high quality production.
