What I liked
I especially loved the charming, meticulously crafted set in Hobgoblin. Every single prop felt thoughtfully made, adding layers of visual delight to the experience. It was a feast for the eyes and a true labor of love.
What I didn't like
Well… technically a "dislike"—but twice, a blood-soaked prop intestine was hurled onto my leg! I screamed, sure, but honestly? It was kind of exhilarating. So maybe this goes in the “like” column after all? Ha!
My overall impression
Behind its adorably offbeat exterior, A Funeral at the Peanut Patch offers far more than a whimsical tale about talking roadkill and a peanut allergy. From the very moment the pre-show announcement begins, the production’s kind-hearted and deliberate intentions are made clear, wrapping the audience in a gentle but purposeful embrace that carries through the entire performance.
At a time when ideological battles rage at the extremes, this play gently invites its audience to consider the histories we’ve inherited—those of displaced communities, forgotten ancestors, and silenced ecosystems. Through the unassuming setting of a peanut farm and the surprisingly endearing use of a guts-spilling (yet charming) puppet, the show conjures a playful but poignant meditation on gratitude, healing, and coexistence.
There’s something deeply comforting about watching this play. It’s funny, even laugh-out-loud hilarious, but always with heart. A Funeral at the Peanut Patch succeeds as a feel-good Fringe gem that doesn’t shy away from weighty ideas, instead offering them up with warmth, wit, and a remarkably unique aesthetic. A must-see.
