About the Project

SHOCKING EXPOSÉ! This EXCLUSIVE World Premiere play NAILS the TRUE STORY of the lawsuit which changed a nation.  It features Britain’s BIGGEST EVER libel case and the TITANIC struggle between the WORLD’S BIGGEST STAR and the WORLD’S MOST POPULAR Daily. IT’S ELTON JOHN VS THE SUN!!!

When a hedonistic rock-legend is defamed by the world’s-most-influential Daily, the fight for his reputation transforms him into an elder statesman fighting for The Truth.

In the ‘80s the Sun was one of the most powerful institutions in Britain. Boasting 12m daily readers, it chose Prime Ministers, destroyed celebrities and dictated public opinion.  It was untouchable.  Until it took on Elton John.

When Sun editor Kelvin Mackenzie, 40, prints a MALE PROSTITUTE’s account of BONKING Elton John in a COKE-fueled ORGY, he thinks he has the perfect front-page story.   Until he receives seventeen writs from the Rocketman’s lawyers.  For the story is a LIE. And Elton, 39, can prove it.

But instead of acknowledging his mistake, homophobic BULLY-BOY Mackenzie, tries to force the rocker into dropping the suits one the most BLISTERING campaigns of MEDIA HARRASSMENT in HISTORY.

This play charts the shocking – almost criminal – lengths to which a paper will go, to cover up its lies.

The campaign costs Elton his marriage, his family, his football club . . . and, almost, his sanity.

But Elton doesn’t let the Sun go down on him. He remains still standing – winning the biggest payout in British legal history, and uniquely, a front-page apology.

Writer-performer Henry Naylor’s works have won 56 awards in the past decade, making him one of most decorated playwrights on the International Fringe circuit. His last Hollywood Fringe production, “Afghanistan is Not Funny” won the award for Best International Production.
