Olivia Xing is back with a new comedy special that’s part stand-up, part survival guide. Her first special received great reviews. British Comedy Guide called her “One to Watch.” Broadway World said her accent was confusing. Both were probably right.
Now, freshly married (for love… of the green card) and armed with an IUD (cuz god forbid not a baby of color), Olivia is digging deeper. In Trying, she takes aim at what it means to chase the American Dream as an immigrant, a woman of color, and a comedian under a new administration where comedy feels like both a coping mechanism and a risk.
If stand-up is about punching up, Olivia’s ready—and let’s hope Homeland Security and CCP aren’t watching.
