Hailey McAfee has an incredible well of talent, pulling the audience’s heart strings to try to empathize with one of the most unlikeable, unrelatable characters imaginable. Rosie Glen-Lambert’s direction and blocking help tell this story effortlessly and flawlessly without once feeling heavy-handed or forced. Everything about this piece grips you and forces you to feel in a way that has Brecht clutching his pearls in his grave with pride. Everything about this show is a masterpiece.
What I didn't like
Nothing. Not a single damn thing.
My overall impression
The Attic Collective knows and creates Theater that all of our Theater/Acting Professors would have wept over with pride. The Attic Collective understands live theater in a way that is reminiscent by the true greats like Brecht… it makes me feel as they he would be wildly proud of much that this production team just gets it. This show is an absolute masterclass in acting, writing and direction. The retelling of the source material is clear as well as a breath of fresh air. You cannot miss this show: with this only being their World Premier, And Her Children is hopefully only just beginning it’s long, sold-out run everywhere it goes.
