Absorbing performance; richly detailed and structured writing; excellent staging; sparse but effective music/sound and production design
What I didn't like
Nothing at all
My overall impression
If you’re reading this, do yourself a favor and see ANDHERCHILDREN by any means necessary. Buoyed by phenomenal reviews and Rosie and Hailey’s stellar track record, I walked in with high expectations, yet somehow they were exceeded. This is an arresting, deeply affecting work that is topical without straining for relevance; full of razor-sharp observations; and confronts you with empathy when you least expect it. Hailey’s performance, which can only be described as transformative, had me leaning forward on the edge of my seat, something I haven’t experienced in a one-person show since Jodie Comer in Prima Facie. Eighty minutes flew by, but I’ll be thinking about this show for god only knows how long.
