I’ve never seen such a long one-person show. Carrying it required an incredible amount of charisma but Hailey has that.
Making a show about an NRA spokesperson while trying to make her sympathetic was always going to be a tough sell in this town, but this show pulled it off!
Sort of.
The character herself ultimately doesn’t seem to think she deserves our compassion.
In any case she IS unquestionably compelling, which is what matters. She is a very real, three-dimensional person – neither an evil embodiment of America’s gun obsession nor a figure used to make strawman arguments on gun nuts’ behalves.
What I didn't like
There were three times I thought the show had the perfect ending but it kept going.
The first time I 100% understand, because there were huge revelations coming after that.
The next two simply dragged the play on, though. Sometimes less is more, even when it’s just a couple of minutes.
Still, that doesn’t change what I said in my overall impression.
My overall impression
Oh my God. So utterly powerful. Possibly my favorite Fringe show this year although I have to let its power settle.
