I loved this fresh take on Mother Courage which, in classic Brechtian style is meant to be a walking contradiction. Whereas Mother Courage is torn between protecting her children from war and making a profit out of war, McAfee’s reimagining of Anna Fierling as a mother, ‘courageous capitalist’/ Fox anchor woman and NRA spokesperson is (tragically) so on point in today’s America. The tech was seamlessly crafted to elevate Hailey’s stellar performance and it was like witnessing a young Nicole Kidman on the rise.

Nothing
My overall impression
Wow. What a haunting performance from Hailey McAfee as Anna Fierling. You don’t need to know about Brecht to appreciate the beautiful writing and clever contradictions. Hard-hitting and tragic, in the best way.
