What I liked
Real characters come of age as they navigate universal fears, the evolution from puppy love to adult love, and the formation of their identities and values against in a politically charged world.
What I didn't like
Consider strengthening the parallel between the characters’ internal journeys and the world around them through additional grounding details. There may also be opportunities to introduce key themes earlier (mental health, isolation, and suicidality) for more impactful payoff at the end.
My overall impression
I was captivated from the beginning of this beautifully crafted coming-of-age story. Jonah Matso is a remarkable new voice, and I’m excited to see what he does next!
