The minimal set direction was incredibly effective, utilizing a small ocean sound and a sign and bench to simulate being next to the ocean, and this small effect tied to the lighting cues went a long way to transport the audience to this world. The acting is incredibly solid, really roping the audience into these conversations, and keeping the audience guessing about where the story is going. The show also captures that feeling of new adulthood and leaving childhood being really well.
What I didn't like
The show could have probably benefited from a few cuts to really narrow in on the major story and character beats. Though the conversations between these characters were incredibly engaging, they could have maybe been a little shorter while still being just as effective. I also wanted to know a little more about the characters themselves, and how their personal connections developed over time.
My overall impression
SLACKTIDE is a great character journey and an engaging depiction of the way childhood friendships grow and develop over time. Great acting and a really solid heart to its narrative.
