It was touching!!! I expected Rugburn to be funny, and it WAS funny, but it was also delightfully surprisingly heartfelt! To see this man, who is a triple threat of talent, acting, singing, and dancing like the best I’ve ever seen on stage and also feel this man serve his heart and soul inside out, the vulnerability moved me at my core. Mat Sanders took us on a personal journey, sharing parts of his life that are deep, hard, and important. I felt my own humanity enlivened and I left in a state of awe. I immediately bought another ticket to see it again for its closing night in LA.
The director of this show, Telly Kousakis, deserves all the awards. Of all the fringe shows I’ve seen, this one had the lights, sounds, and visuals of a long-running hit. I’m shocked that this is a brand-new creation. This director clearly has a brilliant mind, a wealth of theater knowledge, and the genius to overdeliver on a one-hour, pack-in, pack-out show.
In summary, it was emotional, which I LOVED, beyond entertaining, edgy, sexy, and ooooo, just left me wanting more, which is my love language. Make me yearn, baby!
I’m going again tonight.
What I didn't like
There was not enough time/room to cheer and give praise in between some of the scenes.
My overall impression
