What I liked
Brilliant cast, driving band, songs across the spectrum from emotive ballads to rocking anthems, and in my view a cleaner, tighter storyline than the movie. Despite a longer running time, the show flies.
What I didn't like
Seeing a stage full of music stands when I walked in had me worried, but the stands and scripts became invisible as soon as the show started and the cast grabbed my attention. Really the only missing element is choreography.
My overall impression
If this is the staged concert version of the show, I don’t know that the Hudson Backstage could contain the energy level of a full production.
