My name is Remi. My family is famous. Welcome to…a play. Yeah. It’s definitely a play, all about my famous family. They’re your family too.
The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet the longest running sitcom ever. In their 431 episodic run,Ozzie and Harriet were everyone’s next door neighbors and the pinnacle of the 1950’s nuclear family. In fact, the Nelson family was a pivotal thread which weaved the fabric of modern American life. Like apple pie, Chevrolet, and racism, Ozzie and Harriet live in your soil. They float through your air. They live on through you. They live on through me, too.
Okay, maybe this isn’t a play…
See, I’ve been haunted by their ghosts. Ozzie (my great grandfather) makes me lose track of time. Harriet (my great grandmother) forces me to keep secrets. The only way to rid the influence of my famous family is to exorcize them for good, in a dangerous and risky exorcism with the help of this audience I’ve unwittingly gathered together.
Part autobiography, part pseudo-seance, The Ozzie and Harriet Family Reunion examines my ancestor’s legacy. I examine the lives and secrets of my famous family, the dangers of masking a painful past, and discover how to heal from generational trauma.
