What I liked

Liked the ideas. Several performers showed some real talent. Of the three plays, the middle one almost worked. The first was the most original and I liked the idea. The third, “The Monkey’s Paw” was at least an interesting take. But the one that grabbed my own heart in any way at all was number two, about two actors discussing playing Dracula.

What I didn't like

Mostly the direction, which involved a lot of talking to the audience for no reason I could see in play one, long gaps of awkward silences throughout, and the rhythm of storytelling never really gelling very much at all (save for some in play two). Although even play two had some weird anachronisms (Mother Teresa was alive and had formed her order in the 1950s but was a total unknown so how was Lugosi supposed to know who she was?) . I did wonder why the actor playing Lugosi didn’t even try to recreate the actor’s famous accent. Overall, interesting but disappointing.

My overall impression

A deliberate throwback to anthology horror, with three original plays each roughly 30 minutes long, including a re-imagination of one horror classic. A mixed bag.
