a haunting revue

A Haunting Revue is exactly what it sets out to be: Twilight Zone style stories performed onstage. Down to the setting and costumes, the show leans into campy, surreal vibes and 60’s aesthetic that audiences likely associate with the series. There’s even a Rod Serling type narrator who comes onstage to introduce the various vignettes. The real highlight of this production is the second story about a meeting between Bela Lugosi and Christopher Lee. This vignette is a subtle character piece with phenomenal acting by Morry Shorr and Ari Litman-Weinberg. The way Morry Shorr manages to capture Bela Lugosi’s mannerisms without it feeling like a caricature is truly a spectacle to behold.... full review

When Christopher Lee meets with Bela Lugosi before succeeding him in playing Dracula, the resulting tension and drama between the two actors carries a whole lot of bite. That’s the standout of the three stories in this memorable horror anthology.... full review

Super entertaining and well performed, loved the selection of sci-fi and horror-ific narratives hosted adeptly, a super engaging, charming, funny and surprisingly poignant buffet of all things spooky. I usually avoid horror-ish stuff but this show was so much fun and delves and swerves through such interesting topics, a delicious treat for any myth-narrative-folklore-loving theater-goers. ... full review

A HAUNTING REVUE is a collection of three Twilight Zone-style vignettes, interestingly all having to do with inheritance of some kind—whether that’s from family, colleagues, or friends. My personal favorite vignette was The Inheritance of Dracula, supported by very believable actors that fit naturally in the world. There was also some striking physicality and action in the third act that was unusual and impressive. A solid 15-20 minutes of dead air could be chopped from this show and it would immediately be a better experience for everyone involved. With that pacing, I was wondering at points if the show had a director at all. Overall, I did leave the theater with that classic liminal feeling: for a moment alien in my own reality, the... full review
