Cindy has a unique ability to expose her mind and heart to the audience. Her vulnerability and fears are the visceral engine driving this piece. I liked how she is constantly searching for answers, searching for herself, searching for life, even under difficult circumstances. And I could feel Sue Gisser gently guiding Cindy through some difficult transitions of the play, like a friendly hand on her shoulder encouraging her not to linger too long in difficult moments. In doing so they avoid the trap of self-indulgence and allow the play to gallop apace. Well done!
What I didn't like
Some of the transitions need work, but understandable given the new pages Cindy D’Andrea was dealing with as Sue Gisser explained preshow. I have no doubt those minor bumps will disappear into the ether as the work evolves. Cindy is clearly a seasoned performer with unlimited talent, boundless energy and a playful spirit. She is human Catnip!
My overall impression
Cindy D’Andrea lights up the stage in this intelligent, heartfelt and often hilarious
journey through the labyrinth of self reinvention. Her journey takes on a dream-like
quality as she effortlessly bounces between scenes and characters, always searching for connection with her felines, friends and family. It was like being on a psychedelic trip not knowing where we would go next, but trusting her to take us along for the unpredictable and euphoric ride. The director, Sue Gisser leans into the screwball humor with zany music choices and helps steer Cindy through the mine field of loss and joy. It’s a universal subject that anyone can relate to. Go see it.
