Reminded of the trajectory of Ann’s career and a soupcon of experienced tapping!
What I didn't like
Significant pieces of narrative are missing, including the death of Ann’s influential “Stage Mother”, her late-in-life Broadway triumph in SUGARBABIES, and bringing MAME to Hollywood!
My overall impression
Some of my favorite Fringe shows have been Star Tributes for lesser-knowns, like Anthony Newley and bandleader Ina Ray Hutton. This year MGM’s Ann Miller gets a quick 45-minute skim of her career—-not bad, not notably good. It’s framed by the 1970 MGM auction and an unseen Auctioneer, as KAYLABOYE tells her audience things they probably knew when they walked in and punctuates it by showing off her own tapping talents.
