The direction is clear and sure-footed, making good use of the space and the acting from all in the cast is, to my mind, flawless, especially from the play’s author who inhabits her role with emotional range and dark humor.
What I didn't like
I’m ambivalent about the ending, which might have been left as a question rather than the not unexpected outcome. That is a quibble, and otherwise no notes.
My overall impression
A provocative, disturbing and entertaining production that blows up “kitchen table” drama to dangerous proportions with more than a few laughs along the way, thanks especially to the skills of the actors. The title, a play on words, suggests both the tone and the intensity of this dysfunctional family story. You feel you are in good hands throughout a production that is deeply layered, with fine performances and direction. Perhaps unusual for Fringe shows, this is a fully realized play and performed with polish and confidence.
I think this show may affect different people differently, depending on their own family histories…hopefully few are as disturbing as this clan.
