What I liked
Eve Elliot is brilliant at interpreting both the music and the personalities of these complex innovators. I was drawn into the performance by the humor and the charm, but by the end I was incredibly moved by her insight and obvious love for these stars of ragtime, flaws and all.
What I didn't like
Minor technical hiccups only served to remind me that we are seeing a live theatrical performance, and the aplomb with which they were handled became entertaining in themself.
My overall impression
Eve Elliot drew me into a world that ended a hundred years ago, but made me feel like I was experiencing it in real time today. The names are all familiar – Scott Joplin, Jelly Roll Morton, Fats Waller etc., but their shrouded-by-time stories are presented in a fresh innovative way and Eve’s brilliant musical talent made the whole experience uplifting and entertaining.
