Adam is such a likeable person, that even in the throes of alcoholism you’re still routing for him, which he utilizes to maximum effect through the performance. He avoids proselytizing, instead focusing on his specific circumstances through a comedic lens.
What I didn't like
My only complaint is that the show did start late (the 1st commandment of Fringe!), but the show was so thoroughly enjoyable that I was willing to forgive this infraction by the end :)
My overall impression
What a great show. It’s typical to approach the topic of addiction through comedy, but Adam’s storytelling defies expectations and results in a really great, really relatable story. Through a combination of stand up style comedy, character work, and original songs, Adam shares his story not of the process of recovery, which is a common trap for these kinds of stories, but instead focuses on the aspects of his life that lead him both to addiction and recovery. A really great afternoon of theatre!
