What I liked

What I loved most about OUT THERE was how completely it invited the audience into Larry’s world. Mark Vigeant plays Larry, a lovable, well-meaning, and spectacularly unprepared engineer who heads into the Alaskan wilderness hoping to go viral, armed with a livestream camera, relentless optimism, and almost no survival skills. The audience becomes part of the adventure as animals, trees, and wilderness creatures are brought to life through audience participation and props distributed before the performance, creating an atmosphere that is playful, inventive, and constantly surprising. I had the pleasure of being selected to play the moose during my performance, and it was an absolute blast. Mark’s generosity as a performer and improviser makes audience members feel like genuine collaborators rather than people being put on the spot. Beyond the interactive fun and nonstop comedy, I also appreciated the show’s emotional core—the relatable desire to be seen, to matter, and to prove that one’s life has significance—which gave the story real heart beneath all the laughter.

My overall impression

Mark Vigeant: OUT THERE was one of the absolute standout productions of the 2026 Hollywood Fringe Festival and easily one of the funniest shows I’ve seen this year. It is a genuinely original, wildly entertaining, and expertly crafted production that blends immersive audience participation, live video technology, clowning, and storytelling into one cohesive experience. The show balances big laughs with surprising emotional depth, creating a character and story that feel both ridiculous and deeply human. By the end, the beautifully executed ending elevates the entire experience and leaves a lasting impression. This is the kind of inventive, joyful theater that deserves a much wider audience, and it is a strong contender! Highly recommended.
