What I liked
Not only is Mia a thoroughly compelling performer, showcasing a full well of vulnerability and talent, but so are the artists they surround themself with. Whether it be the ethereal flute coming from the stage’s back corner, Squirm’s commitment to worminess, the artistic projections, or the director’s sharp eye for stage imagery, all cylinders are firing and pummeling you with a complicated blend of absurdity, introspection, despair, and beauty. This is the sort of show where the poster will inevitably become covered in laurels and words like “tour de force” and whatnot and it will be well-deserved.
What I didn't like
i’m never gonna dance again
My overall impression
The level of artistry on display here is top-tier. Mia uses every single part of the performance animal — and uses it to expert effect at that. Music, dance, puppetry, pantomime, good old fashioned drama — it’s all here and collides together to form the compelling picture of a person who struggles with the ways they make themself small. Not that I’d have any idea what that’s like.
