Marcus is Alive was a well acted, personal, and poignant journey through Marcus Freed's blessed accident. The journey invites the viewer to think deeply about the meaning of life and purpose in this world through Marcus's horrific yet amusingly portrayed head injury. Marcus asks deep questions, finding the humor in circumstance, taking guests through his multicultural, multifaceted journey! Marcus exudes the strength and conviction we all wish we could have if faced with the same circumstance - but often fear we would not! Marcus has always been very charismatic but his serious brain injury made me wonder, like many, if his recovery would be strong enough to pull off an engaging solo show like I've seen in years past. The answer is a resounding YES! His recovery story was so moving, and I could tell he workshopped and spent time refining the script because the show was pretty tight. Marcus was brilliant on stage, and the show was so well-written – witty, captivating, and thought-provoking. Not knowing much about the show, I was immediately taken in by Marcus' storytelling. The journey between memory and present moment, contemplating the what-ifs and the real outcomes, the moments of despair and the resounding relsilience all kept me captivated. Congratulations to Marcus for creating meaning from his near death moment and for using theater as a media to amplify his learned lesson - that gratitude can exist in even the most unexpected spaces. ... full review
