What I liked

Each character felt distinct and well-woven into the narrative. I really enjoyed the use of the video screen to flesh out the main character and her dynamic with each of the film characters. I saw the show last year, and this time it felt even stronger, especially given some of Tarantino’s recent unpleasant public comments. One of my favorite moments was when Lani portrayed a waitress from the diner scene in Reservoir Dogs, who didn’t even have a name or dialogue in the film. There was also a really fun audience involvement aspect when Lani would address the audience directly. I was even brought out during the dance scene in Pulp Fiction to re-enact that dance with Uma Thurman, which was a real Fringe highlight for me.

What I didn't like

This isn’t even a critique, but I would love to see how the show could weave in other Tarantino characters. It works so well as is, but the show’s structure makes it possible to mix in or switch out other characters. I’d be curious to see the possibilities there. Definitely keep that Once Upon a Time in Hollywood scene, though; that part was amazing.

My overall impression

The show does a fantastic job exploring the turbulent world of a woman stuck in a Tarantino film. It jumps between various characters from his films, all played brilliantly by Lani Harms. Part of what makes the show so fun is how it feels like an affectionate portrayal of Tarantino’s characters, while also acknowledging some of their absurdities.
