Obviously, having seen the movies enhances the experience, but it’s really not critical. For instance, I haven’t seen Once Upon a Time in Hollywood or Jackie Brown and Lani’s renditions of those characters still had me grinning from ear to ear. The references are there, but the references aren’t the show, thank god. What the show is, is some honest to goodness tomfoolery at the expense of one of the most idiosyncratic film directors in history just as the Lord intended.
(As an aside, those quick changes look brutal.)
In spite of the general silliness, there are a couple conclusions drawn by the end that I actually find quite compelling to mull over.
What I didn't like
Now I gotta somehow set aside like four hours to rewatch Kill Bill, so THANKSFORTHAT
My overall impression
Lani gives a stellar performance as Tarantino’s women, capturing each one’s essence while letting her own shine through. A thoroughly entertaining half hour, you’ve got no excuse not to squeeze this into your Fringe schedule.
