Character archetypes are familiar (and especially enjoyable/relatable to Angelenos) – the angsty transplant whose LA days are spent, the musician/poet/addict waiting for the perfect moment to move, the Manic Pixie Dream Girl who may be the most stable in the room, and the Burning Man maharaja…from Sherman Oaks.
What I didn't like
(Not a suggestion on improvement, more of a note on evolution. They made me write something in this box!) The piece feels cinematic and would translate beautifully to film, but it was fun to experience the intimacy of a staged performance.
My overall impression
Take the Seventh Breath Twice is a show that bares its teeth. Playwright Blake Shields establishes tension from the first scene and doesn’t release you until lights out.
